Cheap Airport Extreme Alternate?

Last month, I had a choice, to bought a compatible wireless network usb, or using mini pci wireless network module from my old Macbook White for my Hackintosh project. It was began with an unused i3 PC from my Father in Law. The Operating System seem to failed to overcomes latest Internet security requirements, so it was useless! I do have some curiosity to try tonymacx86 methods on using Mac OS X to a non-apple hardware PCs. I have an old Pentium4 PC with Snow Leopard OS on it, but still having problem booting directly to its IDE hard drive. it is kind sucks though 😦
And then, I tried this Unibeast from tonymacx86.com, specially build for Yosemite OS. In the first attempt, it was failed to boot to Mac OS X Installer. My suspicion was its incompatible onboard VGA. After all day trying all the kexts combination, I need to postpone the project.
In the second attempt, I’m using Geforce 8400 VGA card from my abandoned Snow Leopard Pentium4 PCs. It was successfully booting to Mac OS X installer window. Using Disk Utility App, the 320 GB SATA HDD formated with Journaled Partition, of course, I’am also change it format from Master Boot Record to GUID. After several minutes process, Yosemite OS installed! Yeaay!! The video acceleration went well, the Hackintosh was buttery-smooth.
The PC was equipped with TPLINK usb wireless network. Under Windows, it works like a charmed, but not in Mac OS X. I have tried using its original Mac OS X Driver, but unfortunately, this unit was sold with 3 version. The second and third version were supported with appropriate driver, many user reporting it on their youtube channel, but not mine. It is the first version that use different chipset with other version. This was when the choice came out. Buying the second or third version of usb wireless network, or using mini pci express from my old Macbook White? My choice goes to mini pci express module. But, it needs PCIe adapter, so it can mounted on i3 PC’s motherboard. Thanks to Aliexpress, the range is so wide. Comparing one to another items, I was pick the most affordable one, it was only $7.66, free shipping to Indonesia.
But, maybe because the wide range of choice, I was chosing the wrong ones. My plan was buying a PCIe adapter without its mini PCIe wireless module, but it came out chosing the ones with mini PCIe wireless module. I was realised after the unit delivered, today. The unit did’t show the mini PCIe wireless chipset. By releasing from the adapter, it shows Atheros AR5B93 info on it. Without thinking any further, I tried to googling it for its compatibility to Mac OS X, and it’s like having the greatest gift of all, it has the same chipset with apple hardware. After the PCIe mounted, The Airport Extreme icon show up on upper right corner of Yosemite Desktop without any additional kexts/driver. Yipeee!! After installing Multibeast, it boots directly to its hard drive. I hope this story helps
